The Leith Cross Country Relays is an annual team relay race set to take place on the 17th of May, 2025. The event is staged at the Dunedin Pony Club where the course features rugged, grassy terrain. The relay race encourages participation from teams, which can be composed of family members, friends, or colleagues.
The event also offers an opportunity for children to participate. Children under seven years old have their own race, while primary and intermediate school children can participate in a 650m lap course.
In conjunction with the relay, the Ponydale Challenge takes place. This is an ultra cross country race where participants aim to complete as many 2km laps as possible within a three-hour timeframe. The competitor with the most laps completed within the given time is declared the Challenge winner.
The Leith Cross Country Relays and the Ponydale Challenge are organized by the Leith Harriers and Athletic Club. It’s important to note that it’s not necessary for participants to belong to a running club to enter these events.
