The Terry Fox Run is an annual event dedicated to raising funds for cancer research. The Auckland iteration of this global run is set to take place on September 14, 2025. The run’s course is located at Barry Curtis Park in Flat Bush, Auckland. Participants will cover two laps of a 2.5km circuit that incorporates various terrains including pavement, grass, and gravel.
The event is designed to accommodate individuals of all ages and abilities making it an inclusive, non-competitive occasion. The Terry Fox Run has been an annual tradition since 1981 and has now found a home in New Zealand. It is named in honour of Terry Fox, a courageous Canadian who embarked on a cross-country run after losing his leg to cancer, all while raising funds for cancer research.
As of now, the event has raised over $850 million globally, providing hope and health to families affected by this disease. In line with Terry Fox’s vision, there are no registration fees or minimum fundraising requirements for the event. Distinguishing the event further, there are no corporate sponsors, ensuring all donations received are allocated directly to the Cancer Research Trust New Zealand.
There is also a Christchurch version of the Terry Fox Run for those located in that area.
