The Best Dam Backyard Ultra is a unique running event set to commence on 10 May 2025. The venue for this race is the picturesque Otematata Wetlands in Canterbury.
The race format, known as a Backyard Ultra, challenges participants to complete a course within an hour, hour after hour, until only one runner remains. The race ends when a single runner manages to complete an additional lap after all other competitors fail to finish within the hour.
The racecourse offers a visual treat with well-marked trails, minimal inclines, and breathtaking views of the wetlands, Lake Aviemore, and surrounding mountains. It’s worth mentioning that this course was the same as the day loop utilized by the NZ team in the 2024 World Team Championship.
