The Barefoot XTRAIL Series Awesome Akatarawas Race is an annual event scheduled for 6 July 2025. Set in the scenic Akatarawa Forest near Paraparaumu, it is part of a series of off-road trail runs taking place during the winter season.
The course is unique, offering a diverse terrain that includes mountain bike tracks, horse trails, open fields, and bush spaces. From various viewpoints along the trail, participants can enjoy stunning sights of the sea and Kapiti Island. While still an XTERRA course, this particular venue is considered less technical compared to others in the series, making it more accessible for beginner trail runners. However, an area known as Misery Hill is notable for its difficulty, especially for those participating in the long-distance category.
Race events in the series offer a range of distances, from short to long, catering to different running abilities.
The event is organized by Barefoot Sport, and is part of the larger Barefoot XTRAIL Series. The preceding event in the series is the Starlight Makara race, which took place on 21 June 2025.
