The Terry Fox Run is an annual event held in Christchurch on 14 September 2025, with the purpose of raising funds for cancer research. The event takes place at Hagley Park and the course consists of two laps around a loop that encompasses various terrains including pavement, grass, and gravel.
This event is designed to be inclusive and non-competitive, welcoming participants of varying ages and abilities. Since its inception in 1981, the run has been a global event and has now been introduced to New Zealand.
The event is named in honor of Terry Fox, a Canadian who ran across his home country to raise funds for cancer research after losing his leg to the disease. The funds raised from these events across the globe have contributed over $850 million dollars to cancer research, assisting families impacted by the disease.
In accordance with the wishes of Terry Fox, there are no registration fees or minimum fundraising requirements for the event, and it does not receive corporate sponsorship. All proceeds from donations go directly to the Cancer Research Trust New Zealand.
There is also a Terry Fox Run event taking place in Auckland.
