The Rugged Rogaine Series is an event that offers participants an opportunity to explore the scenic Waikato countryside while engaging in an adventure sport. The event aids in enhancing map reading and navigation skills, while also providing an avenue for fitness improvement.
The third event of the series has been scheduled for 6 April 2025 and will take place at Waikoha Rd, Whatawhata. Notably, this event will host the New Zealand Secondary School Champs (4 hour) and the New Zealand Short Course Rogaine Champs (8 hour).
Participants can expect to engage in a foot rogaine across forestry and farmland, working towards finding as many controls as possible within the given timeframe. Rogaine maps will be provided for guidance. While the two-hour race can be undertaken individually, the four-hour and eight-hour races necessitate team participation (2-5 individuals, categories include Men/Women/Mixed/Junior).
The event is organized by Orienteering Waikato, and forms part of the Rugged Rogaine Series. Subsequent and previous events in the series are scheduled for 4 May 2025 and 23 March 2025 respectively.
