The Old Ghost Ultra Marathon is scheduled for 22 February 2025, taking place on The Old Ghost Road, renowned as New Zealand’s longest continuous single-track. This route, located near Westport on the West Coast of the South Island, offers a challenging course characterized by rugged terrain and stunning natural scenery. Participants will encounter over 2600 metres of cumulative elevation gain, with a completion window of 17 hours. The fastest competitors are anticipated to finish in approximately 8 to 9 hours.
This event is organized by the Mokihinui-Lyell Backcountry Trust (MLBT), a not-for-profit organization responsible for the construction of The Old Ghost Road, emphasizing community involvement in the development of this trail. The race not only serves as a test of endurance for participants but also highlights the region’s commitment to outdoor recreation and conservation.
