The Paraiti Catchment Care Group is set to host the inaugural Flight of the Kōkako Trail Run on March 29, 2025. This off-road event will take place in the Te Ranga district of Te Puke and promises a unique adventure for its participants.
The course will meander through the path of the Kōkako, taking runners through the native forest, creek beds, and picturesque farmland that is typically off-limits to the general public. Participants can expect a varied and scenic terrain throughout.
All profits generated from the event will be utilised to enhance and expand the trapping network and to plant native trees in the catchment area. This effort aims to create a connecting corridor between the two kōkako populations of Kaharoa and Otanewainuku.
In a unique touch to this event, a native tree will be planted in honour of each participant. This makes it not only a physical challenge but also a meaningful contribution to the environment.
Please note that the event will cater to various levels of running abilities, with multiple distance options available.
