The Alexander Airport Carousel Backyard Ultra is scheduled to take place on 19 April 2025 in Central Otago, New Zealand. This event is unique as it follows a ‘last one standing’ format, where competitors must complete successive laps within an hour, with the remaining time used for recovery. The race concludes when only one participant is able to complete an additional lap.
The course entails a loop around the Alexandra Airport on single and 4WD tracks, offering approximately 50m of elevation per loop. The track, a blend of hard-packed trail and pine forest, offers stunning mountain views.
Participants should note this is a self-supported event requiring them to supply their own amenities such as a gazebo, chair, food, and water.
A highlight of this event is its charitable aspect. Part of each entry fee is donated to two significant causes, I Am Hope and Bowel Cancer New Zealand, both of which focus on youth mental health and patient support and advocacy for bowel cancer, respectively.
